This Privacy Policy explains how Professor Pip ("the App"), published by Gabe Roeloffs ("we," "us," "our"), handles information. For terms governing your use of the App, see the Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect
We try to collect as little as possible. The categories below cover everything the App may collect:
- Device & usage data. Anonymous identifiers, device model, OS version, app version, and in-app events (e.g. screens viewed, topic followed, paywall shown). We use this to understand which features work and to fix bugs.
- Subscription & purchase data. When you subscribe, Apple processes the payment. We receive a receipt that confirms entitlement and renewal status. We never see your credit card or full Apple ID.
- Followed-topic preferences. Which topics you've followed are stored on-device and shared between the App and its lock-screen widget through an iOS App Group. This data does not leave your device.
- Diagnostics & crash reports. If the App crashes, we may receive an anonymous crash log to help us fix the issue.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera data. We do not require you to create an account.
2. Third-party services
The App uses the following third-party SDKs. Each operates under its own privacy policy:
- Apple StoreKit — handles all subscription purchases, restores, and renewals. Apple Privacy Policy.
- PostHog — product analytics and feature flags (e.g. paywall variants). Events are tied to an anonymous device identifier, not to you personally. PostHog Privacy Policy.
- Facebook (Meta) SDK — used to attribute installs and in-app events to ads we run. The SDK may collect device-level identifiers permitted under your iOS App Tracking Transparency choice. Meta Privacy Policy.
3. App Tracking Transparency
If we ever ask to track you across other companies' apps and websites, iOS will show you a permission prompt. You can decline, and the App will continue to work normally. You can change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
4. How we use information
- To deliver the core experience (rotating new words, locking premium topics behind a subscription, etc.).
- To improve the App — fix bugs, evaluate which topics are popular, test paywall variants.
- To attribute marketing campaigns so we know which ads are working.
- To process subscriptions through Apple.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data retention
Anonymous analytics events are retained by our analytics providers per their default retention windows. On-device preferences remain until you delete the App.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. EEA, UK, California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, or to opt out of certain processing. Email gdroel@gmail.com and we'll do our best to help. Because we use anonymous identifiers, we may need additional information to locate any data tied to you.
7. Children
Professor Pip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll notify users if a breach materially affects them.
9. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by an in-app notice.
